A Chifferobe is a american closet-like piece of furniture like a wardrobe that combines a long space for hanging clothes with a chest of drawers. 

Before closets there were Chifferobes. The First Chifferobe was introduced in a Sears catalog in 1908. If you lived in the south more or likely your great grandmother or grandfather had one.
